TN: Scholium Project 2005 Babylon "Tenbrink" Red Wine

15.7% alcohol. The label doesn’t specify the variety, but I seem to recall that it is Petite. It tastes like Petite.

My first Scholium. Dark purple ruby. I first tasted this last night - and was singularly unimpressed. While it had a rich mouthfeel and obvious structure, it was lean and unyielding. No fun.

The second day out and this lusty lady is singing for me. Expressive black fruit aromas. Blueberries and blackberries on the palate. Gorgeous mouthfeel and a lingering aftertaste. If this is Petite - it is one of the best I’ve had in a long, long time. Highly recommended - but decant this one for a while.

i had the 04 this winter and thought it was super tight.

Sounds like a wine built for cellaring.

Mike,

The Babylon is a Petite. And both need a long decant, as you found out. I have had the '03, '04 and '05. Very nice wines once they open up.
