Two very enjoyable champagnes!
Ulysse Collin Blanc De Blancs Extra Brut Les Roises, Base 2016, disgorged 03/2021.
Egly-Ouriet Brut Grand Cru, Base 2016, disgorged November 2021, 52 months on the lees, 1 gr/ L dosage.
Two very different champagnes, but both drinking very well now and also with promising futures.
The Collin Les Roises is as good a champagne, that drinks like a fine white Burgundy that I can remember drinking. A soft but persistent mousse, nice backed apple and white pit fruit, fine minerality, and a minor touch of wheat bread. Still over the evening this was reminiscent of a Lafon Meursault with a few years of age. Great fruit flavors, jut the right amount of acidity and a long finish. Used a large Burgundy stem which highlighted the beautiful nose. A very fine wine.
The Egly was also delicious with a bit more depth of fruit, more agressive bubbles, a bit more Pinot Noir character, balanced by the beautiful acidity.
These are both great food wines with the Collin my preference of the two. Even my wife who prefers young, big champagne houses tête de cuvées was vey surprised how well the Collin tasted with dinner.
Wish these web easier to find!!
