TN: Rhys 2008 Family Farm Pinot Noir, San Mateo County

I believe Kevin Harvey cautioned us all recently, saying we could open any of his recently-shipped Rhys and Alesia 2008’s EXCEPT the '08 Family Farm pinot, which demands cellaring. Well, I’ve never really been very good at following directions…

Rhys 2008 Family Farm Pinot Noir, San Mateo County - Full ruby/purple color. Shy nose, but an hour or two of aeration brings forth a lovely perfume of earth, raspberry, and spicy/stemmy nuance. Medium body and weightless on palate, which shows great driving intensity and fine length. A real palate presence with energy and intensity in this 12.6% abv package. So impressive now, but really cries out for 2+ years cellaring. Outstanding+.

In terms of style, this reminds me of a great young Mount Eden pinot, which is high praise in my book. If you have more than a couple of bottles, I suggest you ignore Kevin’s advice and have a look at this wine.

Thanks Lew.
I have no problem with my advice being ignored as long as people enjoy the wine!
