TN: Oriel Cotes du Rhone "Courant" 2005

Color: Medium ruby, clean, clear to the rim

Nose: Black fruits, new tobacco, spicebox, and a slight vanilla note

Palate: Black fruits, bright acidity, more tobacco, medium + tannins with a velvety grip. Finish is medium long…25 seconds.

Overall perception: Tasty. Seems to be modern in style but with the ability to age short term. My first experience with the Oriel project. Louis Barruol from Saint Cosme was the winemaker on this one. Seems to sit on the fence between new and old world rather well.

100% Syrah btw

I had this when it was first released and enjoyed it. Really hadn’t thought about it since. Are they still doing Oriel? It was a cool idea.

Website is still active. I assume they are as well.

Winemaker from St Cosme but leans New World? I find that interesting. Maybe he’s branching out form the company way.

Yes, I was surprised to read tank aged, because I definitely picked up a little vanilla in the nose.
