2005 B Kosuge Syrah Hudson Vineyard - USA, California, North Coast, Carneros (4/4/2011)
Popped and tossed into a decanter on night one, threw half in a .375ml, stuck it into the fridge and consumed on night two. My notes were quite consistent on both nights, showing little change.
My this is a pleasant surprise…cool purple/blue fruit and salt cured olives on the nose precede a syrah that is neither heavy nor clumsy on the palate. Young, snappy fruit and zingy acidity keep this refreshing against a finish of black tea-like tannins as a few other CT’ers have noted. Well balanced, absolutely no heat detected at all (14.5% abv), and a wine destined to pair well with food. I’ve had more complex syrahs, but this a screaming QPR at the $30 or so I paid back in 2008…especially considering you can still find it for that tariff. Highly recommended.
