NV Pride Mountain Vineyards Mistelle de Viognier - USA, California, Sonoma County (2/23/2020)
Had this last bottle in cellar for 15yrs…loved this wine in its youth for its freshness and viognier florals…was pretty much expecting this to turn putrid…but totally wrong! What a surprise! The wine is amazingly fresh and sweet, not cloying, but not an acid freak either…just a perfect balance of honey, peach syrup, and apricot marmalade sweetness…to the dried caramel honey and savory lychee nut oil. Smells like a snifter of fine cognac…a thick mouth coating viscosity yet with an airy breeze of white flower blossoms and citrus acidity. Wonderful aged complexities of moth ball mustiness, mint, creme brulee, tobacco spice…finishes of sweet viognier to dry cognac vapor. Totally blown away here! (94 pts.)
