TN: NV Laherte Frères - Blanc de Noirs Brut Nature (France, Champagne)

They only have Blanc de Blancs, only three left, I ordered two :hugs:

Indeed I was, but I was judging on the company I kept, not the wines I enjoyed :facepunch:

^this here^
Even more to the point out all mags for me finding the right situation to open a mag of bubbles is the most difficult

Crazy-good price!

I’m not Brian, although given the way he lives and the generosity he shows, I would be happy to live as Brian anytime…but, to that wine Graf, it looks like the 2018 LGC. I have found the 2018 to be a little sunnier than the 2016 or 2017. It’s the Chardonnay from around the estate, with a few grams of dosage in it. Looks like Brian had it near the BBQ, which during the event was about as far away as I could be when we were trying to reconcile the garage auction after it closed.

Marc, I don’t think Brian T saw your reply, he’s not tagged. FWIW, if you are talking about the bottles at B-21, I’d suggest you try a few. They have a few left and if that’s the store and close by, and while that price is a little higher than here on the West Coast, it’s not a lot more and the wine is terrific.

Sorry, Marc — meant to post my CT note, but then got distracted and forgot.

FMIII got to enjoy me bugging him in excitement moments after I took my first sip of this. It’s really really good.

My TN, in all its usual scintillating glory:

NV Laherte Frères Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut Nature - France, Champagne (1/19/2023)
– popped and poured –
– tasted non-blind over 4 hours –
– August 2021 disgorgement –
– Dosage advertised as being in the 0 - 5 g/L range –

NOSE: expressive; very chalky and high-toned; crisp; a tad vinous.

BODY: medium-light yellow colro; initially, the bead was extremely active, but it dissipated to nearly nothing over 2 hrs; light bodied.

TASTE: acidic, oceanic, and intensely flavored (but not-at-all heavy) — wow! chalky lemon; it took no more than one sip to know I love this! 12.5% alc. not noticeable; 100% Chardonnay; fermented and aged in oak barrels for 7 mos; this did seem to recede over a couple of hours, becoming increasingly austere and less fruit with air, and developing a leesy-type note at about the 3 hr. mark. Drink or Hold — I get the sense this would benefit from at least a couple years laying down. Will buy again. Excellent bottle of affordable bubbles here.

Always fun to read a thread like this and then open up CT to find that I have a good quantity of these.

We blew through it pretty fast due to the size of the crowd and I didn’t take any notes. I remember a nice brioche note to go along with a fairly rich stone fruit palate.

Just remembered the other wine I opened, it was a Larmandier-Bernier Latitude. Drank that while I was grilling.

Cool. Thanks, Brian. It’s one I always look at, and always pass on due to its price tag and my ignorance.

Disgorged 02-22, cork shot out as I was removing the wire. Stayed in the cage though, no dent in the ceiling. First pour at cellar temp (49°) Quick whiff of crescent roll dough and white peach. Up front the mouse is broad and persistent, tart green caramel apple, followed by lemon/lime/grapefruit, but it has a creamy texture. After a little swirling it’s practically a still wine, the finish sporting a little more dough but also a mineral presence. Wondering about the disappearing act by the bubbles. As subsequent pours approach room temp a little nuttiness comes to the forefront the palate is still broad but the acidity is intense and hurts my teeth a bit. No more swirling, bubbles intact. I like this but finish is almost too austere. Almost.
