TN: N.V. Duval-Leroy Champagne Brut (France, Champagne)

  • N.V. Duval-Leroy Champagne Brut - France, Champagne (9/30/2010)
Ahhhh nothing like calamari and a good Sparkler! This Champagne is very refreshing with green apple, baked pear, ginger ale, fresh yeasty apple pie crust, lemon florals. Nice airy mousse, firm citrus acidity…little mineral funk as well. Really easy drinkin, tasty Champagne…super qpr at $29. (91 pts.)

Good to hear, I haven’t tried the new label yet.

If you haven’t tried the 96 BdB and 96 Brut, they’re worth a flier under $55. If you see the 06 Femme in 750ml for anywhere $125 or below, that’s another buy.

agree with peter, the 96 brut is very good value at sub $55.

Is this the same wine as the Cuvee Paris in a different bottle?

A fan of the vintage and non-vintage wines, except for the Paris wine.

the 96 Femme also came in a 500 ml bottle–and it was cheap way back then. The aggressive acidity has tamed down a bit–nice bottle.

We just tried the new label D-L too, and it is true to form… with the tell-tale green apple. Terrific value too. I also like the Paris bottling, but it may be as much presentation as anything.

How is the 96 Brut drinking now, I have a bottle of that waiting…
I also haven’t tried the new label yet, I used to get D/L pretty at a reasonable price and liked it.

Cheers

Had two bottles this spring:

5/1/2010: Took longer for this bottle to open but still great, with fat and creamy fruit with underlying tension.

2/2/2010: Honeyed pear, orange marmelade, gala apple, citrus zest - this bad boy has it all. Young as heck and bristling with energy, this is a touch tight yet still resonates forever on the finish.

just drank one in the beginning of sept, notes are similar to Peter’s May notes as in the flavor profile of creme, mousse and expansiveness on the palate, but it was roaring from the get go. I actually thought as the night progressed, the acidity started to show itself and the “fat” shed and exposed more of the famous DL green apple. Great vintage buy imho.

Love the '96 Femme. Love it even more for its QPR. Love it best of all because it comes in neat 500ml bottles - just right for two!

Local price on the '96 is $59 and the NV brut is $50

That’s a silly price for the NV… I’ve never paid more than $30… and often closer to $25…

loved the 1996 - drank two in the last 2 years and loved both - super qpr. I also enjoyed the new label brut recently. the Paris cuvee, not so much. (but it was on closeout for $65 in mag, so I got one for the pretty bottle.) it was more austere, almost bitter at times, and lacked the comfortable, plush palate that I prefer.

I actually hear the Paris cuvee is to be discontinued. so buy the pretty bottles while you can.
