TN: My First 2007 Cotes du Rhone (Believe it or Not)

I stopped at a tasting at a local wine store and bought some wine, including the 2007 Tardieu-Laurent CDR Les Becs Fin. I paid something like $16 for it, and I really wanted to see what all the excitement over 2007 CDR is all about.

Well, it was $16 I don’t regret spending in the least. Roughly equal parts grenache and syrah, the wine is very dark in the glass and offers aromas of spice and flowers. The palate is peppery with blue fruit, licorice and a pencil lead note. While straight-forward and uncomplicated, it is fun to drink. Makes me want to order a pizza, or maybe grill some lamb. I can’t wait until more 2007s hit the shelves around here.

Thanks for the note Brad. I too am experimenting with the 07 cotes du rhones…i know it’s out there, but I haven’t had a truly bad one yet. Some have been better than others, but nothing bad.

Thanks for the note Brad. It looks like lots of us are taking refuge from this economy in CdR’s currently as the quality is very high for very few dollars. WineX has stacks of a new one in I need to try.
