shhh…
Wow that is an out of control lineup. That is great to have had so many of them blind, and get a read on them while they are young.
======
The little I’ve had from the Cave de Tain, I’ve liked. We can’t get all the various bottlings at our locals stores, just the bigger production ones, although (inexplicably) I saw a Gambert de la Roche on the shelf.
With all due respect to the thread starter, whose notes are excellent, I have to state the following:
A list of “Most of the 2015 Northern Rhones worth a damn” that does not include anything from:
Guigal
Chapoutier
Jaboutlet-Aine
or the producer I representis an absurdity.

Probably should have been titled “Most of the 2015 2015 Northern Rhones in fashion with the WB cognoscenti.”
I would encourage everyone to spread the word on Chave nowadays - being an oaky mess that will never integrate or be as good as the non-oaky NRs. That should reduce demand…
Thanks and damn to Claus Jeppesen for identifying the producer I represent. Thanks for mentioning IMO one of the very great producers in the Northern Rhone, in fact the planet (if you ain’t had 'em, don’t knock ‘em’; Produttori Barbaresco gets some love here, Cave de Tain should too). Damn, because I was going to ask Mister Zachary Ross the name of the producer that is a “must-pass” for him.
I guess a part of my gripe with the post is that there is exactly one Hermitage listed. OK, you don’t like the big guys: You are in a very small minority. But what about Sorrel, Faurie, Yann Chave?
FWIW, before I accepted the agency for the Cave de Tain, I hosted two blind horizontal tastings with sommeliers. No, I didn’t have the small producers in there, just the Cave de Tain, Chapoutier, Chave (the big one) and Jaboulet-Aine. Even if they are all unworthy, my tastings showed that they are equally unworthy. That’s was the deciding factor in accepting the agency. I know that this board could not possibly host any wine snobbery.

Never had nor seen any of the Cave de Tain’s wines so I’ll look out for them. They won’t get an a priori pass without at least some experience!
Sorrel was mentioned above as worthy, and indeed Faurie is pretty worthy as well. Never had Yann Chave, another to look out for. I am partial to old Vallouit Hermitage.
Actually my first Hermitage was a 1995 Cave du Tain and I have been visiting them in 2001. Great visit. I like them, but my preferences lie in Cote Rotie and Cornas

Or: “Expensive hipster wines that you cannot afford or find…pfft!!!”
My best N Rhône drunk this year was 1982 La Chapelle, on the same table with two young Juge wines. Just sayin.

Hipster? I thought they went out-of-any-style at least 5 years ago. Give this guy 93 points!
easy on the hipster bashing!
Adrian, great notes. I did almost fall out of my chair seeing the 93-. Curious as to the prep for the wines… PnP…decant? I’m hosting a tasting of some Northern Rhones in January and plan to include the Faury and an Alain Graillot Crozes-Hermitage from 2015. Wondering how you approached it. Awesome line-up - thanks for sharing!

They’re quite easy to afford if you don’t buy the ones not worth a damn.

Thanks for your kind words. As to prep, we did a slow-ox for about 4 hours before tasting. Certainly not the correct treatment for each bottle, but the range of actions were limited by logistics, and a desire to be a bit more consistent overall.
Faury VV showed very well with the above treatment, though more air is good if you can manage it (an actual 3-4 hours in a decanter might be better). I’ve had the Graillot Crozes previously (excellent wine), and my guess is that a similar treatment would work well for it. I do slightly worry that the wines may be starting to shut down.

Very helpful - thanks so much!
I made the mistake of ordering a 6 pack of 2015 Xavier Gerard Cote Rotie without consulting this thread. Now I feel like a chump.
