TN - More sorting table magic: Boillot, Barthod and Dauvissat

Continuing on last night’s great sorting wines, we were fortunate enough to drink these beauties while sorting more Alpine Vnyd PN -

2005 Dauvissat La Forest - A beauty. Seashells, honey and cilantro on the nose. Ripe middle but plenty of pure saline minerality to hold it together. Ready for business and very lovely.

2002 Ghislaine Barthod Chambolle-Musigny 1er La Cras - Controversial. I found it bretty, which I haven’t seen in the few Barthod Chambolles I’ve had. A bit riper than expected, but very well put together and some serious floral/red fruit beneath the brett. Good, but a bit off.

2002 Boillot La Montrachet - Wow. Just, wow. A stunner. Classic Montrachet combination of buttery/oily richness, wet stone minerality, ripe pear and exotic incense aromas and flavors. Length for days with plenty of backend acid to shut it down a bit on the finish. Drank over about 4 hours and just kept getting better. We enjoyed it with some shaved Parmesan and french bread and I can’t think of a better combination. A real treat.

I think we’re in the white burg groove and may do some corton charley and meursault tomorrow night while sorting Anderson Valley, Horseshoe and Skyline.

Jeff,
Thanks for the great notes, and I really envy you that Boillot. I’ve been blown away by a number of '02 Boillots (the grand crus, sure, but the Pucelles and Perieres are really wow! wines too), but never had the '02 Monty. Hopefully it’ll continue to inspire your chard!

Cheers,
-Robert

Thanks Robert. It’s one of those wines that if it doesn’t inspire you, you’re in the wrong game. Nothing like setting the bar high…

On the second day, the Barthod was considerably better. The brett seemed less and the fruit was coming forward.

Nice notes, thanks.

Agree on the 2005 Dauvissat La Forest. I’ve been through 3 bottles recently and it’s stunning bottle of wine.

Ghislaine Barthod recommends to wait another 3 years before hitting her '02 1er Crus. And indeed, the couple I have tried in the last 6 months were like a jigsaw where all parts are there but just not at the right place… but it’s getting there.

I envy that Montrachet too
