TN: Loving the 2006 Auteur Pinot Noir Shea Vineyard

    2nd bottle. Still loving it. Really deep dark purple color. There’s a heady spiciness to the aromas mixed with mocha/vanilla and dark fruits (plums, blackberries). in addition, there is a good vibrancy provided by the whole cluster, making the aromas pop! It had good weight in the mouth and full-flavors (pluots, cherries) with spiciness to it. It rides on the riper side but it doesn’t go over board. There is still minerality and good backbone to balance it out. The additional year made it much better than my last bottle. Wonderful bottle!

Just had this wine last night! Very nice though hardly a 100 point wine as VF has suggested. In fact, not even the best Shea vineyard bottling I have had (Shea “Shea” is better IMHO). My notes:

Melted brown sugar, Moroccan spices, cocoa, black cherry liquer. Panforte. Deep, velvety, maybe a bit hot. Pretty firm structure on the palate with minerals and black pepper on the long finish. With about four hours of air the fruit becomes more primary and a pronounced mint note is added. Reminds me a little of an Oregon Aubert pinot with better structure and a bit more depth. 92 points.
