TN:Lopez de Heredia Vina Tondonia Rioja Reserva 2000

Color: Medium to light ruby, clean and clear, showing a little amber at the rim.

Nose: Red plums, baking spice, sandalwood, and floral aromas.

Palate: Red plums and strawberries, spice box notes, acidity med +, tannins are fine grained and fairly soft. The finish is surprisingly short.

Overall perception: I was surprised at how little complexity this showed. Everything else seemed right on, the weight and mouth feel were exactly what I expected, but the finish was shorter than I expected and the flavors were straightforward and somewhat simple. I will be tasting this again, as it could have been a bottle variation.

I had the same general impression of it, Mark. I’d never tried that vintage but picked up a few bottles in HK because, at the good price and since I like LdH’s Tondonia, I figured it would be worth a try. Though not as good as other LdH Tondonia Reservas, I’ve no regrets and will happily pop another open with my next chuletón.

Thanks Noel.
I expected a little more in layered complexity and I thought it was either my palate or an off bottle.

I will try it again also.
