TN: JadeMtn Syrah HudsonVnyd '95...(short/boring)

Tried this last night w/ dinner:
1, JadeMtn Syrah HudsonVnyd/Carneros/NapaVlly (13.5%) 1995: Very dark color w/ very slight bricking; very strong bretty/barnyardy/horsecollar slight peppery/floral/violets/blackberry/Syrah light toasty/oak some complex nose; tart somewhat lean/tannic/dried out quite bretty/barnyardy/fecal slight peppery/smokey/blackberry/Syrah some toasty/oak flavor; long quite bretty/horsecollar/barnyardy somewhat tannic/dried out/hard slight peppery/blackberry/Syrah finish; some interesting things therein but totally subsumed by the brett on the nose & in the flavor and starting to dry out; it’s seen better days…this was not one of them. $28.00

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. This wine, in its day, was a stunner and one of the first to show the quality of the Syrah being grown on LeeHudson’s Carneros vnyd. Truly one of the great Syrah vnyds of Calif. Made by DougDanilek, back when JadeMtn was making some of the great Rhone wines in Calif. Alas, the brett, which was not originally there when I first had this wine, has grown so much that any small pleasures are totally overwhelmed by the barnyard/brett. So sad.
