More gibblefruck from TheBloodyPulpit:

  1. I love Brachetto wines from the Piemonte. The strong strawberry aromatics make it so attractive. Sam absolutely nailed it on this wine. Best served slightly chilled. Not a wine worth pointificating about, just knock it back w/ gusto.

Thanks Tom, love this wine, been through 6 bottles already! It sounds crazy but all my notes have descriptors of a very fine Burgundy yet it doesn’t taste like Burgundy or Pinot Noir. Agree, this is one delicious wine!

I’ve never thought of it before, but brachetto seems like it would be a great blending grape, adding perfume. Given the lowish alcohol and color, would it work with zin in small doses? (There may well be in some old field blend.)

Could very well John, the aromatics would certainly lift something like Zinfandel.
Paging @H_Wallace_Jr the absolute best “blender” of grapes that I have ever seen.

In Piemonte, it is often used as a blender in Barbera and seems to give it an aromatic lift. Never seen Brachetto as a blender in Calif because there’s so little of it. I can see where it would be a good blender w/ Petite Sirah.

Sounds like it could act like cinsault or counoise.

John, yes, similar or even more based on my latest tasting of the two varieties you mentioned. Though it has been several months since I last had a Cinsault. (A Sandlands Cinsault).
