TN: Heitz Cellar '05 Petit Verdot, '06 Chard...

  • 2006 Heitz Cellar Chardonnay - USA, California, Napa Valley (8/30/2010)
Man this is a dead ringer for good Chablis! Cellar temp really brings out the minerality, and citrus lemony fruit. You get fresh tartness green apples, sea shell, lemon creme, nice ginger spice, the very slightest touch of vanilla oak. Drinking way better than the '07…wish I had more of this '06. Would love to age this out a few more years. (93 pts.)

Dark blackberry, inky blueberry, tightly structured with tart crancherry(ala Argentinian Malbec), tannins, and a good dose of oak. Nice dry dark cocoa powdered Bing cherry, blackberry liqueur…but this is more destined to be blended than by its own. I don’t see any Heitz terroir at all…which reminds me of their Napa Cabs of late, not the Vineyard designate. Nice wine to drink with some steaks…but really nothing special, and definitely doesn’t scream Heitz imo. (88 pts.)
