Yes, wtf. This popped up as a Garagiste offering a while back, and I took a swing.
1990 Francoise Maldant Bourgogne Blanc
From the Garagiste offering. I don’t know whether they have stored this in a freezer, but if you didn’t see the cork that was about to fail, blind you could easily call this a mid-2010’s entry-level Burgundy.
Nose is mineral, iodine, lemon curd, some lactic notes showing some age.
Palate is fresh, very slight hint of oak, citrus, sea shells, nice acidity, somewhat simple and linear, but holy sh*t this drinks a lot younger than a 1990. Finish is short and not very complex.
Drinks at peak, not sure how it does it. Can’t see much development, but it’s not in any sort of decline either. I bet at release no-one said the drinking window for this wine would be 1995-2035.
It’s not a great wine, it likely has never been one. But it definitely is a survivor.
