TN: Fourrier, 2017 Les Gruenchers

I love this wine. I’ve had it 5 times now over the years and it has been consistently excellent since release. Visually gorgeous to behold, so transparent, rose but with an orange hue like a very light Barolo in the glass. Incredibly mineral and starting to show dried rose pedals on the nose. Bright acids with an elegant fine boned mineral spine carry the bright cherry fruit through a long, cool and mineral driven finish. Such a contrast to the Gevrey wines.

Maybe a controversial opinion, but I would choose this wine over the Dujac bottling every time.

Thanks for post. I love the Dujac version but have never had Fourriere’s. A blind side by side of multiple vintages would be fun to do.

Agreed - I’d love to do that. My sense is this wine has gotten significantly better from 2010 onward, so I would not be surprised if earlier vintages of Dujac’s came out on top. I tend to gravitate towards red wines with less oak though so that definitely plays a role for my palate. With White Burgundy, I’m much less sensitive to oak though.

How does this compare to Barthod’s?

I’ve actually never had Barthod’s. It’s a semi recent acquisition for them - I believe 2010 was their first vintage.

Barthod needs more time

Yeah that’s my experience with Barthod in general as well. A 2010 Les Cras about a year ago was beautiful on opening but proceeded to shut down hard behind a wall of structure 30 minutes later.

A more or less eternal truth but 92 and 94 are ready and quite lovely.
