tn: four napa cabs

had a few friends in town last night so some napa cabs got opened. started around midnight when I got off of work.

1996 st. clement napa - mint and mocha on the nose. it was a little lean on the palate with an herbal note and some tannin on the finish. hanging in there but not getting any better

1996 schweiger cab - minerals and oak on the nose with blackberry and a little earth. finishes a touch drying and a tannic finish. the fruit has faded.

2005 phelps napa - youthful obviously compared to the last two. sweet aromas of blackberry and plum. a little grapey. tons of sweet fruit on the palate and still a bunch of tannin. much better than the bottle of 04 I had a while ago.

1997 staglin cab - here we go! huge and complex nose. plums, black currant, smoke. silky smooth on the palate. very elegant with hints of blueberry. long finish with excellent acidity to lift the fruit. with time it added notes of cedar and cranberry. best staglin I have ever had and best Napa cab in a while
