I am a fan of Elyse wines particularly their Zins. This one came out of the shoot with vibrant blackberry fruit and over the next hour (decanted) opened to some very nice chocolate flavors. Medium bodied with a nice tart fruit finish. Unfortunately the alcohol (supposedly 14.5%) stuck out like a sore thumb marring would might have been. The next night the alcohol was even more prominent.
It’s not that I didn’t find pleasure in the wine – it’s nice enough – but it’s not what I expect from such a typically consistent producer. Forced to score I’d say B-.
I could be wrong but I think our local Trader Joe’s has this wine…it’s been tempting me to pick one up b/c Elyse has always made pretty good to very good wines…
Tony,
I was told that TJ’s was probably going to be carrying the wines that are not specific vineyard designates (AKA, Rutherford, etc) to move out product and Ray was going to be cutting production to wines that are designated.
