TN: Dugat-Py 2005 Bourgogne Rouge

First off, decant the living hell out of this wine. Pop and pour will give you a burly monster. Ten plus hours in the decanter will show the young virtues of this wine.

After decanting and sloshing and swirling and pouring, we finally get past wood aromas to lush blackberry, raspberry, sandalwood, granite, aloe, mint, cracked pepper and earth.

This is burly indeed, considering the humble appellation (offered at a less than humble price). Plenty of soil and stone, with raspberry richness and very grippy tannins on the finish. Still very young. Requires coaxing. Will dismay the inexperienced (more the wine’s issue than the consumer’s).

The soil, flowers and black tea in the finish are intense. The best 04s remind me of this. Interesting wine. Happy to own d’Angerville, Mugneret-Gibourg, Roblet-Monnot and Perrot-Minot Bourgogne 05 in more quantity and lower price in 05, but this is interesting to play with as a regular Burgundy drinker.
