Clos de Los Siete 2007:
This is a wine out of my normal drinking style so take this note for what its worth. Bright ruby red color with a resplendent nose packed with gobs overdone mocha, boysenberry and violets. The first sip reveals a severe lack of subtlety- globular fruits (black cherry, blueberry and black raspberry), bitter chocolate and smoked meats. I like to give every wine a chance. So I left the wine to mature and went downstairs to play a video game (please have fun with that statement). After an hour or so a slight transformation had occurred. The wine was no longer a one dimensional, juvenile, everlasting gobstopper . . . and I had a bit of a case of Wii arm, but I was victorious numerous times playing FIFA Soccer (no transformation from juvenile there!). This time the wine showed a tad more acid in its profile, the fruit was not as upfront and, surprisingly, nuances of minerals and spice began to shine through. Don’t get me wrong, this is still not my bag, but at least it grew on me. Definitely modern and certainly not for the faint of heart, but if you are looking for something simple and easy to drink this might be alright. But if you are afraid of getting any spoof on you . . . stay away. 85 points
Similar experience on my side, except I really did not like the wine.
Then again, I’m a burg nut, so I may have missed what this wine is about.
John -So funny you should post on this - I had this wine for the first time last night at a restaurant in Toronto with a very mediocre wine list. I thought this would be at least half way decent based on rep. Way over manipulated and syrupy sweet - awful.
