TN: Chateau Rouget 2005 Pomerol

Enough talking about Botdeaux. More drinking, then talking about Bordeaux.

I own a lot less Bordeaux than I do Burgundy, but I retain a soft spot for a good Pomerol, and this is a very good Pomerol. No greatness here, just a slowly developing, lush, bright wine.

Aromas of Ripe plum, red and black cherry, blackberry smoke and flowers.

Has that pretty, voluptuous, fleshy Pomerol texture. Nothing ponderous or clumsy here. Plum, red cherry, cassis. Very good length. Just past infancy. Tannins grip the middle. Good acidity in the middle keeps things fresh.

Good value as a future. Good now, better 5-10 years from now.

Thanks for the note. I just had the '82 version this past week, and I was surprised at how long it took to develop once opened. I opened the bottle about 3 hours ahead of time and took out a small taste to enlarge the surface area. When I started drinking the wine it seemed rather monolithic and mute, but after another hour or so, and as the wine breathed more, it started to show its subtle personality and class. I’ve got one more to experiment with, but I think I’ll let it rest in the cellar for a while! [cheers.gif]

Jim, I agree this is a very nice wine. The style is maybe a little modern, but it’s very enjoyable for what it is, and a great deal at $35.
