Cantine Antonio Caggiano Aglianico dell’Irpinia Tari IGT 2004:
A sweet nose of ultra-ripe black fruits, tar, sticky red pepper jam and licorice. Minerals and bramble dance around with copious quantities of red fruits, graphite and wild spices. Don’t get me wrong- this isn’t complex but it sure is fun to drink! Great with pasta with braised meats at home when its cold and dreary too. Some of Antonio Caggiano’s other gems are a certainly more “true” to the grape but I dig it. 88+ points
I’m rather new to Aglianico, but understand it has the capability of being a big ‘new style’ red wine…sounds like this fits the bill
Hmm, must be good since it’s not a far cry from Taurasi-land. I just went through Aglianico land a bit more to the south in Basilicata and liked what I saw. May I ask did you buy it at a good price?
$20ish . . .
