TN: Cameron Hughes Lot 134

Craig and I are drinking so these notes are live:

Lot 134 is a NZ Marlborough Sauv Blanc

Generic sauv blanc. Nothing overly offensive or attractive about this wine. At 12 bucks it’s not a re-buy simply because at the end of the day I can go to Costco and pick up a Kim Crawford and have equally unsatisfying experience - instantly.

There is a note of tropical fruit but the nose is dominated by lemon grass.

Not enough acidity for us. The finish, which is thin, may be because of this.

This is a ‘good on the nose, weak on the mouth’ Sauv Blanc.

We are not long any more of this wine.

Thanks for the review. I’ve been thinking of picking some up since I got the CH e-mail that it was in my local Costco.

I’ve found Kim Crawford too ‘grapefruity’ in the past for my palate though, and prefer some of the California SBs, like Morritson or some Handley I got a great deal on at Trader Joe’s a while back. I would guess that’s the acid difference.

Can you help with that comparison?

thanks.

Maybe, grapefruit is not your issue - at all.

******okay, I wrote the above sentence then tasted the wine again - either the power of suggestion from you OR a change in the wine has taken place. The grass has left and been replaced with citrus/grapefruit.

Hold all thoughts on this until we revisit this again in about 30 minutes.

Craig has had the Morritson and thinks that you won’t get the acidity you want in this wine. This hasn’t changed.
