A nice, unstructured and relaxing evening with some wonderful sushi organized by @Brad_England to cap off a wonderful weekend in the Twin Cities. Original theme idea was non-Lafon Perrieres, but that proved to be just the beginning. There were also several other wines on the table that I didn’t get a chance to make notes on.
- 2002 Salon Champagne Blanc de Blancs Brut - France, Champagne
PnP. Wide open and fully mature. Very beautiful.
- 1999 Coche-Dury Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
A nutty maturity and complexity about it. Such a depth of flavor on the palate and a finish that lingers on and on. Continued to gain steam throughout the evening. Some had this has WOTN against stiff competition. - 2011 Domaine Roulot Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Corked (NR/flawed) - 2021 Domaine Bernard-Bonin Meursault 1er Cru Les Genevrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Opened 2 hours early. So many 21s are just beautiful wines and this one was no exception. Very delicious and inviting with a good balance of acid and structure. A charmer.
- 2010 Vincent Dancer Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Nose just explodes out of the glass from the first pour. Combines the maturity that you expect from 15 years with a great acid backbone and deep white fruit. Very 2010. - 2014 Vincent Dancer Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
Coiled a bit tighter than the 2010 along with more intensity and structure. This is a complete wine with unique herbal perfume and loads of energy. - 2020 Vincent Dancer Meursault 1er Cru Les Perrières - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Meursault 1er Cru
The tightest of the three, this one definitely needs more time to come around as nearly every 20 I've had recently. A couple more years will do wonders the loosen up these large scale wines.
- 2017 Domaine des Comtes Lafon Montrachet - France, Burgundy, Côte de Beaune, Montrachet Grand Cru
A pristine bottle of a nearly perfect wine. Always stupendous, this one did not disappoint. Drinking so much more complete than a couple of years ago.
- 1990 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
Can sense the warmer vintage on the nose. Darker fruits on the palate with an additional maturity compared to the 93 beside. A lovely experience, but I feel like many 90s peaked a few years ago. - 1993 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru
So young and fresh. A beautiful wine with complex purple fruits and a brightness about it. Very enjoyable.
- 2005 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Richebourg - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Richebourg Grand Cru
Opened at lunch and recorked. Much more open at dinner, but still very structured. Needs 5-10 more years at least. - 2007 Domaine Dujac Romanée St. Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
My first time trying this unicorn. Can sense the different oak treatment compared to the DRC RSV beside it, but still has a similarity underneath with the whole cluster influence. A very sexy and velvety mouthfeel with a nice depth of fruit. I think this was the second vintage for Dujac. There was some discussion at the table about whether this is still under métayage with Wilf or if this is all Domaine now. Maybe @Jeremy_Seysses can confirm? - 2017 Domaine de la Romanée-Conti Romanée St. Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru
Opened at lunch. Super open and inviting as the 17s have been since release. Supremely drinkable and delicious.
- 2020 Domaine Bizot Vosne-Romanée Les Jachées - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Vosne-Romanée
Blind. Intoxicating nose that immediately screams Leroy. Very open and inviting with a layered complexity that feels 15-20 years old. But there's some tighter, but smooth tannin structure that hints it's not that old. I went with 02 Leroy Savigny. My first Bizot and I understand now the cult following. Very special wine.
