TN: Bret Brothers Mâcon-Igé Les Verayes 2022

Bret Brothers Mâcon-Igé Climat “Les Verayes” 2022. I always thought I didn’t really like white Burgundy. What a fool I was. What a naive, silly fool. I know you can’t smell salt but this smells salty and vegetal. It tastes salty and vegetal too with wonderful acidity. I think there might be richness in there too but the acidity is so lively and juicy that it covers it really well. Interminable finish, so clean and pure and salty. Moreishness levels are astronomical. This costs 35€ which is too much but I will be splurging again. Why did no one tell me white Burgundy could be good? And how does the second most bland grape after Merlot make something this interesting?

Been a long time since I have had a Bret Bros. Not because I don’t like them, just that I have too many others in hand. They’re quite good. For better (taste) or worse ($$$) welcome to white Burgundy.

I wouldn’t categorize Chardonnay as a bland grape at all, rather one that is particular to place as well as how it is handled from the vineyard to the bottle. It’s my favorite white grape followed fairly closely by Riesling.
