2002 Corton Charlemagne–vivid, focused, pure Chardonnay essence wrapped around a rigid spine of acidity that carries the classy fruit onto the palate and helps hold it there for longer than I thought possible. Bonneau du Martray used to be my value grand cru white, but with premox and escalating prices, Boillot has seized that standard and raised it even higher. White flowers and steel, this is superb white Burgundy.

Oooh good to hear, as it happens I have a 2005 Corton Charlie from Boillot in the fridge. Any thoughts on it?
Sure you’ll open one of yours but won’t let me open one of mine at dinner last weekend. It is really a great wine, on the last couple occasions I’ve had it.

Great note Alan! I’ve been picking away at some 1/2 bottles of the '02 H.Boillot Chevalier for a while now and can honestly say I haven’t had a bad one yet… Yum!
yeah, but we had enough wine for three of us, since Denise drinks next to nothing. Save that bottle for next time! And it was you who wanted to try the Raveneau!

I don’t think 05 is as good as 02, but Boillot does nice work–let us know how it is.

The 05 seems a bit richer than the linear 02. A good wine but fatter than usual, which for me is okay in a CC, especially with drinking them on the younger side due to fear of premox.
I am relatively new to Boillot. Knew of the name, but was buying the same domaines year in year out and never really bothered to add another producer of white Burgundy to my cellar, regardless of the high marks the Boillot wines were receiving.
Until someone let me taste almost the entire line-up of Boillot. I was really impressed and have bought them since.
I have no experience with how they age and premox track-record, but from this thread I conclude that I should not be concerned. Sounds like a great bottle, I will try my luck and see whether I can get my hands on some older Boillot.
feel free to open it
i’ve run through a decent amount of CC + batards from 2000-2005. All spectacular. I know one or two ppl that have had premox issues. But I love the producer. Easily the biggest producer I buy year in year out.
Love Boillot. Hands down, one of the best, if not the best white burgundy producer in terms of quality, price, and reliability. I especially like his Pucelles, Mersault Perrieres, Clos de la Mouchere, and Batard.
Had the '08 HB CC about two months ago. Thought it would be somewhat closed, but was actually singing from the start. Perhpas a bit more steely and less white flowers than the '02, but a beautifully balanced Grand Cru with a long lingering after taste of mineral infused fruit.
My cheeks are salivating as I type this…lol
I’ve had the '08 twice, exactly this.
The '02 is very good as Alan has said (I have heard of premox with the '02, but not sen it myself), and I think Jerry is spot on with the '05.
More than likely am doing so tomorrow.
