TN: AloisLageder TerraAlpina PinotGrigio '19...(short/boring)

Tried this PG last week:

  1. AloisLageder TerraAlpina PinotGrigio IGT: Vigneti Della Dolomiti; www.TerraAlpina.Eu; 12.5%; dallaTerraImprts/Napa) Magre 2019: Pale yellow color w/ lots of tiny bubbles that dissapate; quite fragrant/floral/carnations apple/pear slight spicy/cardamon very attractive nose; quite tart/tangy/grapefruity some pear/apple strong floral/PG/carnations rather tangy/metallic slight spritz light/lean flavor; very long quite tart/tangy/bit steely/metallic bright/floral/PG/carnations/apple/pear finish; not a profounf PG but a very bright/brisk refreshing expression of PG at a very good price. $19.00 (AV)

A wee BloodyPulpit:

  1. I thought this was quite a pretty expression of PG. Nothing profound but a good food wine. This appears to be an economy brand label for Lageder.

Tom – Haven’t had the 2019, but had many Lageder whites over many vintages, and your notes match my general impressions to a T. These wines have been solid, if not standout, values for many years – and sale pricing has sometimes moved them into standout value territory. Often a good restaurant choice.

Tom, the Terra Alpina wines appear to be negociant wines from Lageder: https://www.terraalpina.eu/wines. I had the Pinot Bianco at a local restaurant on a warm evening, and it was also crisp, clean, and attractive for the price.

This is Alois Legeder’s entry point / bought in Pinot Blanco, and the 2019 Terra Alpina ‘Pinot Bianco’ [Dolomiti] is a solid citizen for spring/summer quaffing. Costco has been carrying their Pinot Grigio for a couple vintages locally, as have my local supermarkets, but I picked this by mail order before I realized that they were on the shelf locally. I find Tom’s description of the PG to encompass this varietal fairly well too, although there may be a touch more straw/grassy note for the PB. In my ledger maybe a B+ or so, enjoyable, and maybe a blanc to have BTG at a bar/restaurant or something, but not something I’d use up a personal rack slot for at home.

At least this calms the chef down while they wonder why a 6 lb rack of spareribs is going so slowly on this Memorial Day weekend.
