TN: 96 P. Livera Chapelle Chambertin

this was made, at least back in 96, in a metayage agreement w/Claude Dugat and has been for a long time an excellent red Burg. Currently, I think Livera produces his own. I’m not sure, though, of the details; I first learned of the association when I bought a bottle of 99 Chapelle w/the Claude Dugat name in a restaurant.

With the telltale spine of 96 acidity, the fruit is darker and the wine is thicker than the quintessential Chapelle, and it’s a lovely red Burg with food. In this case, I had rabbit in mustard sauce. The density is good, the tannins are resolving and fine, the midpalate has a nice crunchiness to the fruit, and it finishes long and clean with an acidic lift. The fruit is more cherry than strawberry, and is dark and a bit brooding. The wine does not seem 17 years old and will last and improve for a long time. A nice quaff. An under the radar quality producer rarely reviewed by Burghound.

I just grabbed a bottle of the 99 for $80 and some 05 for $125, stupid good prices!

seems I liked this wine about a year ago, too, and there’s some info at the end of the thread re the purported Dugat assocation: TN: Two 96 red Burgs - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers

I also raved in 2010: TN: 1996 P. Livera Chapelle Chambertin - WINE TALK - WineBerserkers

I went through a few bottles of the '95 and if I recall just one of the '96. Though I don’t keep formal tasting notes I remember these being quite good. Great qpr, I agree.

Sounds good Alan. Nice find.

Went through a few of the '99s, wrote some tasty tasting notes and have always been on the lookout for more, though haven’t remembered to look in a few years. Good juice!

Alan, Sorry to nit pick but the metyage agreement with Dugat began with the 1999 vintage.

Does this taste like a Dugat wine, eg, more oak?

Glad to know that-- has it continued?

Re the Dugat’s reference, it is big but balanced and not overoaked.
