  • 2002 Domaine Armand Rousseau Père et Fils Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Chambertin Grand Cru (4/16/2011)
    Absolutely stunning wine. Still young and primary but so well balanced, never ending, great complexity with real Gevrey character, but structured more like a RSV. Great intensity and depth with a fineness so rarely achieved. Top notch. (96 pts.)
  • 2005 Domaine Denis Bachelet Charmes-Chambertin Vieilles Vignes - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Charmes-Chambertin Grand Cru (4/16/2011)
    Infanticide. A little disjointed now though obviously a monumental wine in the making. The intense sweet bright red fruit was overwhelming and overriding the unexpectedly reserved and fine structure. This wine needs time. First bottle was corked. (94 pts.)
  • 1990 Alain Hudelot-Noellat Romanée St. Vivant - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Romanée St. Vivant Grand Cru (4/16/2011)
    Bought recently at auction. Finely structured with good depth and concentration. Quite evolved with pronounced sous bois character kept in check with good acidity and fruit sweetness. Lovely length and purity and at its peak.

Lew, I had the 1989 H-N Clos Vougeot a couple of months ago which was killer so I can well believe the 1990 being stupendous… Interesting that the 1990 H-L RSV had no sediment, perhaps filtered, whereas the 1989 CLos Vougeot had quite a heavy sediment and needed to be carefully poured. Cheers Mike

BTW I often neglect to post on the better wines I drink because they are consumed in the weekend among friends with the focus not necessarily so much on the wine. During the week, with my wife, we open lesser wines but spend more time on them so am more likely to post.
The whites we drunk with the above were a 1983 Hugel “Reserve Personnelle” Riesling - could easily have been a young Aussi Clare Valley wine. 08 Henri Boillot Batard Montrachet - stunning, a 1990 Bollinger Grande Annee - Killer with huge power and finesse and still young, it is just getting better and better. 08 Fevre 1er Vaulorent - piercing acidity that I love.
