TN: '70 Brane-Cantenac

I wasn’t expecting much from this based off its mid shoulder fill. The cork actually ended up being in decent shape for its age and boy did it do a wonderful job preserving this wine. This pours a dark ruby in the decanter with minimal bricking at the edges. The nose is a wonderful blast of rose petal and lavender with the slightest hint of cigar box and spice. On the palate, I get a nice blend of cherry and cranberry fruit with fully resolved tannins and lively acidity. I also get a hint of tobacco and wood spice on the palate. To me, this is a slightly more perfumed and less concentrated version of Ch. Margaux. While I don’t see this getting any better with age; I certainly don’t see this wine going downhill anytime soon. 93 pts.

I love bottles like this, from producers and vintages you can probably pick up for a song compared to bigger names and years ('70 no slouch, but no '61 or '82, etc.). Thanks for the note.

See, aren’t you glad you didn’t sell this for $29.00 or whatever. Good on ya that you enjoyed this. Keep posting about your special finds.

My kind of drink, reminds me of some past D’issan…ridiculous glorious seductive perfumes, soft palates…love
