TN: 2024 Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spätlese Goldkapsel

  • 2024 Schäfer-Fröhlich Bockenauer Felseneck Riesling Spätlese Goldkapsel - Germany, Nahe (4/16/2026)
Interesting bottle of wine that surprised me. I was expecting a bit more richness, but instead there was a sprightly nature to the wine, as if a Kabinett dressed up in Spätlese Gold Cap clothes. The flavor profile did not display any element of botrytis, so this seems to be a Spätlese GK that happens to cosplay as Kabinett. That's not really a bad thing!

I had the GG Felseneck and Stromberg 24 last week. I think Schäfer Frohlich hit the ball out of the Park (again) in 2024. Just very pure, almost salty wines with a mineral backbone, exceptional length and a freshness that lingers on. Stromberg being the more hedonistic of the 2 and Felseneck more cerebral. It seems the wines have gained a lot after bottling so I think the Wine advocate scores are probably conservative.

Ps don’t forget the schiefergestein 24, these are needed in the cellar to keep your hands of the GG’s😜

@Robert_Panzer can confirm but I don’t think the spatlese GK is a botrytis cuvee, it’s just a special selection of the spatlese. My favorite bottling from S-F.

My favorite as well.

It is not botrytis, quite the contrary. Steep, old vine spot in the Felseneck, zero botrytis. Craaazy good…
