2022 Weingut Hermann Ludes Riesling “Hermann” - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (4/29/2024)
– cracked and poured on Day 1 –
– tasted non-blind over 3 hrs on Day 1; revisited on Day 4 –
– AP No.: … 2 23 –
NOSE: gooseberry; some sponti funk; expressive; typical MSR mix. Day 4: mostly the same as Day 1, but the sulfur funk is gone; MSR; gooseberry; lime.
BODY: little bit of spritz; light green-yellow color; {forgot to note weight}
TASTE: bitter sulfur, with light gooseberry lurking behind; strong, buzzy acidity; juicy; lime; fruity, but also pretty dry — feinherb?; 10% abv not noticeable. Importer’s website (Vom Boden) says this was fermented to 9.5 g R.S., with 9.5 g/L acidity. Surprisingly easy to drink, given the intensity here. Crazy-good QPR @ $23. Day 4: very limey, with some gooseberry mixed-in on this salinic, high acidity, unbelievably good entry-level bottling. On my list moving forward.
