TN: 2022 Tiberio - Trebbiano d'Abruzzo (Italy, Abruzzi, Trebbiano d'Abruzzo)

2022 Tiberio Trebbiano d’Abruzzo - Italy, Abruzzi, Trebbiano d’Abruzzo (1/10/2024)
– decanted approx. 50 min. prior to first taste on Day 1 –
– tasted non-blind over 2 hrs on Day 1; revisited on Day 2 –

NOSE: very light – citric – and high-toned; bright/green/grassy note – dandelions; moderately expressive.

BODY: light orange color (just a touch lighter than a flawed 2020 Pepe opened alongside); {didn’t note weight}

TASTE: high acidity – juicy and citric; 13.5% alc. not noticeable on Day 1, but I did taste it a little bit on Day 2; Anjou pear; bit underbrushy and citric; improved over a couple hours on Day 1, but felt it was a little better on Day 1 than on Day 2. Drink Now and over the near term. Will buy again.

50, 5, 12, 16, 8 = (91 pts.)

I havent tried Tiberio’s trebbiano, but I really enjoyed their Pecorino.

This one will make you forget Pepe’s (and I’m a Pepe fanboy)
At a fraction of the price.

The Pecorino is great, and I am speculating now as I have in the past - given what they have done with the other varieties, it would only be logically to bring out a special/top bottling of the Pecorino as well.

Till then we are fortunate to be able to get our hands on the Pecorino with all the grapes going into one bottling, and for you in US it’s an even greater bargain. More or less the same price as in Europe which says quite a bit.

Brian,

You did not see any aging upside to this one? I thought this grape was one that could hold for some years.

I didn’t, Chris. But, I have no prior experience with this wine. Perhaps others will chime-in with favorable aging experiences…

Good to know. I know a source that has some 2015. You input makes that an easy pass.

I don’t think there is any question if the variety can age or not. However this is not necessarily the bottling for that (if you want to age further then I would try the Fonte Canale).

That said I would not be surprised if the 2015 is still drinking well. If it would be me then I’d buy a couple of bottles and given that they shouldn’t be much more than 20 bucks, probably got a better chance of drinking well than aged white burgundy, it will be money well spent or a very modest loss.

Oldest I have in cellar are a few 2019s, when I come across one I’ll fast track for getting popped.

I wouldn’t. Why? She makes world class wine for a song.
