TN: 2022 Hofgut Falkenstein „Niedermenniger Herrenberg“ Riesling Kabinett feinherb (AP-4) Onkel Peter

2022 Hofgut Falkenstein „Niedermenniger Herrenberg“ Riesling Kabinett feinherb (AP-4) Onkel Peter

First, if you live in Europe, try to catch some bottles, if you live in USA make a reservation. The praise by Jean Fisch&David Rayer/MFW in the new edition No 66 is spot on. And what a steal „Schnäppchen“ for 16€.

What a bewitching&ethereal „bezaubernder“ Kabinett feinherb. On the palate white flowers, spice and quince. And such elegant, precise, light-weighted „leichtfüssig“ and with huge finesse, classic Hofgut Falkenstein.

Last but not least the TN by Mosel Fine Wines:

„The 2022er Niedermenniger Herrenberg Riesling Kabinett Feinherb Onkel Peter (the reference to this internal cask name is provided in small print on the label after the AP number) comes from un-grafted vines in the south-facing Zuckerberg sector of the vineyard and was fermented to off-dry levels of residual sugar. It has a magnificent nose of slightly reductive elements of almond cream, plenty of minty herbs, spices ,white flowers, blackberry, and white pepper. The wine is beautifully refined and light-weighted on the elegant and finely juicy palate. The finish is precise and airy. The complexity is simply breathtaking. What a magnificent off-dry Riesling!“

Martin,
Living in Germany, I got a few bottles for just below 20€ - where do you see 16 € ?
Anyway: thanks for your note, looking very much forward to tasting it.

For US folks: any recommendations on where to source a few bottles at a time? (Not necessarily specific to this bottling.) I’ve been grabbing some bottles here and there over the last couple years but it seems like now is the time to start planning ahead (and maybe formally getting in line).

Thanks, Martin! I’m glad you liked the wine.

Where do you live in the States?

WeinGalerie in Essen still has 2022 Onkel Peter for under 20 euros.

Philadelphia but do most of my shopping in NY or via online retailers.

I got a case at £14, of course it’s going to cost me another $10/b in shipping, lol. Picking it up at a local store at 16€ is certainly a nice perk of living in Germany!

€16 for Onkel Peter, €33 for Gisela and €33 for Förster with €30 for shipping of 18 bottles to Denmark. Gotta love being so close.

Macarthurs has some 2022 in stock now.

Meanwhile, in the US: multiply by 1.5-1.8

At these low end prices it costs a significant percentage just to get it here. And then of course there’s the importer tax plus the retailer tax.

Quick update: the order should be shipped in early September.

How does one “make a reservation” for these in the us. I’ve been getting ~1 mixed case a year since 2019, but the 2022s have been going faster than I can find them. Retailers sell out days (if not same day) posting their stock!

I’m in the PNW if that helps. Vinopolis and Fleur wines have come and gone already. Would like to find some 2022s while I can. Magnum would be amazing to lay down, but not sure they exist or are ever available.

Unless you have an allocation, I’m guessing it is just being quick to the draw when the offer lands in your inbox.

I managed to pick up a mixed case from Vinopolis because I saw the offer email 15 minutes after it landed in my inbox (Onkel Peter, Meyer Nepal, Palm, and Kugel Peter). But, even then, the 18 bottles of the Gisela they had were already sold out. Pretty wild.

Lars will certainly step in and clarifies things. Rumor has it that the estate placed the order with the manufacturer too late to secure the bottles when they were needed, so no magnums in 2022…

Magnums of Mayer Nepal were offered.
