2022 Giaconda Chardonnay Estate Vineyard - Australia, Victoria, North East, Beechworth (4/20/2025)
Aromas of struck match, pure white peach, flint and aniseed. It is relatively compact for now, with such an intense core of sappy orchard fruits. There's loads of spice and such great presence. It finishes with real authority and drives on. Supreme balance and proportion. One of Australia's very best.
Maybe should start a separate thread, but I’ll drop my question here for starters:
What are recommended Aussie Chardonnay which are (1) under $100 in the US, (2) made in more of a French or AFWE style (or at least some midway point towards that style — just not ripe oaky new world style), and (3) preferably ageworthy at least to a medium extent.
Leeuwin Art Series is one though barely under $100 anymore.
had a 2018 Joshua Cooper Cope-Williams Vineyard Chardonnay that was a standout for a Chardonnay only theme for my tasting group and we had some heavy hitters in the line up
There are lots of options now as this is the style that most winemakers are chasing.
Here’s a list off the top of my head, some less that 50 aussie pesos.
