- 2021 Selbach-Oster Zeltinger Himmelreich Riesling Anrecht - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (4/6/2024)
Labeled as Auslese, but if served blind I might have guessed it to be labeled as Spätlese, this was incredibly easy to drink - just pure Riesling, with virtually no evidence of botrytis. Ripe apple, a hint of peach, brisk acidity, and the sweetness just melts away on the finish. Made a delicious match for our sweet potato and goat cheese quesadillas with caramelized onions.
Thank you David for checking in on the 2021 S-O whole block ausleses! What are your thoughts on the aging curve for them?
The balance on this one is so spot on I could see it going for 25+ years. Maybe 15 more to start maturing perhaps.
I really need to try more Selbach.
Going to a Selbach dinner on Tuesday with Johannes.

I’ll have to look for some. This sounds awesome. I like the Selbach-Oster en bloc wines a lot, but I always liked them more when they veered closer to Spätlese (the 07 Schmitt and 08 Anrecht) than Auslese+.
Sounds like a great match with the food. It’s been mentioned before but I will reiterate that something I love about wines like this is that it is so nice to be able to toss back a couple glasses with a meal and not be tanked by the alcohol.
7.5% ABV on this one.
