I first tried this wine in the 2014 vintage and liked it but wasn’t blown away. Someone back then commented on my note on CT that the wine should be followed over time to let it breathe. Here it was really obvious that decanting is warranted and indeed I am really happy with how it turned out. Given how much the prices have increased for good producers (and probably poor ones too) this is a pretty great value in this small 2021 vintage. I think I need to return to the well to get some more.

2021 Henri Boillot Bourgogne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc (8.9.2023)
A synthetic cork. Right after opening it seemed markedly tightly wound to the extent that I decided to decant it to give it proper air. After half an hour and then some things are definitely changing for the better. The nose is rather intense with expressive lemon and tangerine driven fruit, beeswax, wood, buttered toast and hazelnut. Really fine and bright. On the palate it is definitely quite concentrated and dense for the level. A serious style for sure and the vintage had me expecting for something lighter and leaner. The flavor intensity is not through the roof but there is no lack of fruit and the use of oak is on point. Not acid-driven but there is plenty to match the scale of the wine effortlessly. Very savory, which is how I like it. Great presence and length, this provides simply a lot of bang for the buck and probably has some upside as well.
