TN: 2021 Henri Boillot Bourgogne Blanc (France, Burgundy, Bourgogne Blanc)

I first tried this wine in the 2014 vintage and liked it but wasn’t blown away. Someone back then commented on my note on CT that the wine should be followed over time to let it breathe. Here it was really obvious that decanting is warranted and indeed I am really happy with how it turned out. Given how much the prices have increased for good producers (and probably poor ones too) this is a pretty great value in this small 2021 vintage. I think I need to return to the well to get some more.

A synthetic cork. Right after opening it seemed markedly tightly wound to the extent that I decided to decant it to give it proper air. After half an hour and then some things are definitely changing for the better. The nose is rather intense with expressive lemon and tangerine driven fruit, beeswax, wood, buttered toast and hazelnut. Really fine and bright. On the palate it is definitely quite concentrated and dense for the level. A serious style for sure and the vintage had me expecting for something lighter and leaner. The flavor intensity is not through the roof but there is no lack of fruit and the use of oak is on point. Not acid-driven but there is plenty to match the scale of the wine effortlessly. Very savory, which is how I like it. Great presence and length, this provides simply a lot of bang for the buck and probably has some upside as well.

sounds great. When not premoxed he makes great wines. Never noticed a synthetic cork w his wines.

Yeah, not common in any bottle of ”proper” Burgundy, definitely surprising. I guess the thinking is that this level is drunk young so unnecessary to gamble with cork. It has a cheap feel for me but then earlier this year I opened 2010 Chianti Rufina with similar closure and it was :fire: so what do I know.

See if you can get any. I had a Muzard Santenay from 2021, and we were only allocated a case for the store, and now it seems that there is none left…

???

Sorry 2021… keyboard was stuck…

Gotcha :grinning: Only seeing Muzard’s reds where I shop except for the 2021 Bourgogne Blanc magnum but, alas, don’t have a lot of use for mags currently. Do you find the reds recommendable perhaps too?

I have not sampled the reds yet…

I had his 2015 Santenay Les Champs Claude Vieilles Vignes in 2020 and quite liked it. My note mentions good complexity and decent length (more details on CT). Yet, I haven’t sought out the producer since that bottle. Maybe that’s indicative as well.

Thanks for commenting! Yeah, couldn’t locate a ton of enthusiasm for this producer besides a couple of retailers waxing lyrical :grinning:

Adding one data point
