TN: 2021 Guffens-Heynen Mâcon-Pierreclos "En Crazy"

Checked in on some new arrivals this weekend.

  • 2021 Guffens-Heynen Mâcon-Pierreclos "En Crazy" - France, Burgundy, Mâconnais, Mâcon-Pierreclos (2/2/2024)
Love what Jean Marie Guffens Heynen is up to these days. White Burg nose, sligthest hint of gunflint along with lemon/minerality/white fruit. Ripe fruit, but bracing acidity. A laser beam of acid at first. More minerals come on. Quite nice at this level. Very young- watch where this goes in time. >

Guffens-Heynen and Raveneau are the wines I miss most since I stopped buying Burgundy. His Verget St. Veran could at times also be quite good. Does G-H still do Verget?

Thanks, Paul. Lovely wines. Yes on Verget to my knowledge.

I think that’s right that he still does Verget. Man, those wines really drew me into Chablis years ago, and I love the G-H stuff. He’s got great style. Wonderful wines.

Crazy good wines.

Had this bottle at a restaurant in Austin on Sunday. Was surprisingly open. I imagine it would have improved with a decant, but we blew through it in about twenty minutes.

Had this one a couple of days before Christmas, and your note resonates - a real stunner. Guffens is the single producer I have the most wine from, and I am very, very happy about that =)

Has anyone tried the 2016 from Guffens?

Glad to hear it! And good one you for having a stockpile.

Opened one of these tinight! My first Guffens-Heynen, snagged in a wine shop in Beaune.

Quite Mâcon at first blush, with a lightly herbaceous, chamomile/lemongrass nose with a touch of flinty reduction and a high-toned stony mineral quality. The palate is lithe with lemon oil, animating acidity and a nice chalky finish. Very pretty.

Sean- thanks for bumping this one. Great note! Makes me think it’s time to check on another bottle. Cheers.
