TN: 2021 Domaine Didier Fornerol Côte de Nuits Villages

  • 2021 Domaine Didier Fornerol Côte de Nuits Villages - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Côte de Nuits Villages (4/13/2025)
By now the value play is out of the bag with Fornerol. This is classic Burgundy- maybe it is 2021 talking- but it's lean-not too dense- has what I want in a red Burgundy on nose and palate. It's fairly open. Freshness that is palpable. Put a picture of this in the dictionary next to "perfect Tuesday night Burgundy to enjoy with a roast chicken dinner."

Oh good, thank you sir!

I have two of these coming along with a couple of 2022s, and I was rather bewildered as to how I should treat the 2021s as I’ve hardly had any 2021 Burgundy.

Appreciate it!

Hi Owen,
Definitely check on an 21 - pretty open. '22 has a bit more density, and was pretty good at Paulee last month. I think that’s just vintages talking, can’t go wrong either way. Good value drinking wines.

2021 is a magical vintage for current and short/mid term drinking, don’t be afraid to open them now and they’ll stay open likely for a long time.

Fornerol is indeed amazing and a remarkable value. Glad to have stocked up on these.

As for '21, I think they’re excellent right now as well. Had the Domaine Dujac MSD this past weekend and it was open for business.

When is he hanging up his spurs? I thought it was imminent a couple of years ago.

I think 23 was the last vintage, can’t remember exactly.

I think that was his original plan. But now it’s ‘24

Thanks @Dennis_Atick, I can foresee a magical springtime roast and a ‘21 Fornerol happening already!

That’s great info @MChang, I appreciate it. A number of stores in my area still have some vestiges of ‘21 hanging around and I had been somewhat hesitant to buy anything “pricey-for-my-budget,” but this helps. There are a couple of Chevillon NSGs I had considered, but hadn’t bitten on.
