Spotted this yesterday at my Costco. Knowing @Robert.A.Jr’s love for this wine, figured it was worth a try at $55. Might go back and pick up a couple more, but that doesn’t mean I am becoming a regular Bordeaux drinker
2021 Château Durfort-Vivens - France, Bordeaux, Médoc, Margaux (7/13/2025)
Looks like young bordeaux lol, deep garnet color, some nice pencil shavings and a hint of vanilla oak on the nose; decent flavor on the palate, dusty, rocky plums, oak in the background, a bit of creosote, medium tannins but they recede on the finish, making this quite drinkable even at such a young age. Really quite nice, and quite classic. (90 points)

Good to hear! I would definitely recommend 16, 19 and 20. Based on what I’ve heard - but I have not tried - 21 is not at the same level as a vintage. Thanks for the check-in, Alan!
Robert,
I have had only one 2021 (Lafon Rochet last year when I was at the winery), but it intrigued me. Was it a rich modern vintage of Bordeaux. No. Did it have gobs and gobs of anything. No. Did it have the power or concentration of a great vintage. No.
But, it tasted like Bordeaux used to taste. I would not be surprised if the vintage turned out to be sort of like 1979 or something like that. It is foolish to extrapolate one wine into a vintage summary (I am now 70, so I have a license now to say silly things). And, maybe it is my views of 2021 red Burgundies and German Rieslings being extrapolated into Bordeaux. But, I would not be surprised if you would like some of the successful wines from the vintage. I don’t think Leve would (not big enough) or Mark would (too easy to drink young and not tannic enough), but I would find it interesting for you to taste a few 2021s and let me know your impression of the vintage.
I’ve been reluctant to buy in only because I do not want yet more young vintages of Bordeaux, but I have to acknowledge that I have really liked 2021 in Rhone, Beaujolais and Chinon. Definitely more my style of vintage.

I miss Francois. Given his tastes, I drink wines way too young; and they all need another century or two before they emerge from their adolescent selves.
