TN: 2021 Château Carbonnieux Blanc (France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan)

2021 Château Carbonnieux Blanc - France, Bordeaux, Graves, Pessac-Léognan (6/12/2025)
– opened approx… 30 min. before initial taste –
– tasted non-blind over 3.25 hrs. –

NOSE: high-toned (smells like it’s going to be tangy on the palate); hint of lychee mixed with something “green” — tropical green grapes — or perhaps green grapes + gooseberry (?); orange blossom. Overall, pleasant and complex.

BODY: medium-light to medium bodied; light green-yellow color.

TASTE: high acidity, with plenty of tangy fruit; some oak (?), or is that just the Semillon in the blend? Without investigating, I’d guess the Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc mix to be 50/50 on this one. (subsequent research indicates the blend is 65/35 or 70/30 SB/Sem, depending on which source you read). I don’t often drink or like dry white Bordeaux, but I like this one, and am a re-buyer at $32.

Nice note. I have had this a few times and like it a lot. Thought it was better a year ago vs a few months back, but irregardless, will be serving it to a wine group next weekend.

Invariably the best QPR in dry white Bordeaux.

Thanks for the note. I’ve been a big fan over many vintages. Enjoyed the 2021 last year - I need to get some more in. US$32 is a decent price - it’s a little more than that here.

From the producer’s website, the blend is 65/35 SB/Sémillon.

If I could get it at $35 it would be a go-to for me, but it’s more like $60 here on the east coast, USA.

Ewwww, yuck. I wouldn’t buy at that price, either. I’m surprised to hear such bad pricing on your coast. Without knowing exactly where you are, I’d expect you’d be able to get excellent pricing out of NYC (may not be relevant, however, if you don’t live in NYC, and – like me – pretty much refuse to buy wine that needs to be shipped from retailer to you). I got mine at Costco, and I do remember it being a very good price at time of purchase. But I also seem to recall it being widely available for about $40 when I checked Wine Searcher Free before putting the bottle in my cart. … I shudder to think what your source(s) must be charging for DDC’s blanc.
