TN: 2021 Charles Van Canneyt Gevrey-Chambertin

Textbook village red Burgundy for me. Everything I want at this level.

  • 2021 Charles Van Canneyt Gevrey-Chambertin - France, Burgundy, Côte de Nuits, Gevrey-Chambertin (5/11/2025)
Fine perfume, a hint of spice. Red fruit. Earth. Finesse and fine texture. Quite open already, though a little energy on the back end bodes well for hanging on for a while. CVC is making good wine. Loved this.

How do they compare to hudelot wines?

The 19 was supremely crushable a few years ago. Have a case of the 21 I haven’t tapped yet. Looking forward to it. Not substantially different style from H-N.

Yeah, what @Andrew_K I have not had a ton, but '20 and '21 have been imminently crushable out of the gate. But with a good deal of finesse. For a village wine- at it’s asking price (for now) not sure one cant want much more. Very Burgundy. No mistaking it. I’ve not gone above village- I’m fairly new to the CvC wines- but I am a buyer.

Yeah, I believe the H-N wines are from inherited holdings and the CVC label is negoce and/or newly acquired parcels by Charles. He also recently acquired Domaine des Chézeaux.
