According to the TWA Luis Gutierrez, the 21 Reserva is aged in 80% French oak and 20% American and then 20% is new. I bring this up as I found this a really good use of oak in a Rioja - a some polish and richness for sure, but it’s doesn’t translate to being glossy and serves well to pair with hearty proteins. Great freshness, with the pressed dark berries coming across as both juicy and ripe. The palate weight is buoyant, displaying an elegance that epitomizes what the Muga Resrva can do so well in a good vintage. This is that. (93 points)
