TN; 2021 Andante Aligote, Williamette Valley

On my recent Oregon trip we had a very nice tasting at Andante. Located off a gravel road in Van Duzer Corridor, in fact right next to Van Duzer Winery. Randy in the tasting room was a great host and the wines kept flowing.

The Aligote was a revelation. Previously when I was ITB I tasted one from Lafarge and my recollection was it did not move me. This Andante is another matter. From a 1 acre organic vineyard, it is barrel aged, probably a combination of new and used. Nice oak spice, yellow fruits and perfect acid. It reminded me of a Premier Cru Burgundy in style and quality, yet was distinctive on its own. Really good mouthfeel with lots of minerals, it paired wonderfully with lump charcoal grilled scallops and shrimp. A bargain at $35 and something to ponder over dinner as it kept changing course and interest. I asked Randy about planting this obscure varietal, and he responded that if Chardonnay and PN grow well here then why not Aligote? We also bought the 2018 PN.

Overall an off the beaten path recommendation for a visit. If you have an RV, they are part of Harvest Host. The owners could not have been nicer and the 360 degree view from the hilltop camp area was awesome!
