- 2020 Lagier Meredith Syrah - USA, California, Napa Valley, Mt. Veeder (9/6/2024)
First bottle from my six pack, and so glad the grapes were picked prior to the horrible 2020 fires. This is a plummier/sappier version of the L-M Syrah, that reminds me more than a little of the delectable 2016. Buried under the delicious fruit there is a core of structure, but it’s going to be a while before it can assert itself. No problem though, as this is very fun to drink now.

Brave move. We try not to open one until about 10 years of age.
I always open a single bottle of each new vintage.

– decanted about one hour before tasting –
– tasted a couple small pours over 1 to 1.5 hrs –
Young and ripe, but surprisingly drinks well now. Young dark fruits mixed with an earthy savory aspect are accompanied by a pleasant tangy acidic lift. Seems there is room for significant improvement, but it did come across as being high octane, so there is some risk in holding. For my preferences, I’d probably look to drink over the following decade.
