2020 Dureuil-Janthial Rully Chêne Blanc - France, Burgundy, Côte Chalonnaise, Rully (11/15/2023)
I’ve been wanting to try Janthial for a couple years…and now I know why. Pop and pour.
The nose is loaded with white florals, lemon curd and flint.
On the palate it starts with an oily texture that’s backed with slightly tingly acidity. The energy of the initial acid fades a bit as it opens up. Mid palate is full of this nimble tension between richness and chalk. Over time that is then backed up with a powdery (gunpowder if you will) finish. It was a little bitter/disjointed in the first hour but came together throughout the night.
This drinks like a 1er cru from further north for half the price. There is fruit here, don’t get me wrong; but the star is all the texture. (93 points)
