The 2020 Les Molates was good but this is on a whole another level despite a difference of only a couple of Euros in price. I try to focus on value less but this seems criminally underpriced for the complexity and completeness that it delivers.
2020 Domaine des Marnes Blanches Chardonnay Côtes du Jura En quatre vis - France, Jura, Côtes du Jura (23.9.2025)
Aromatically explosive with really delicious tart-ish fruit (lemon, cidery apple), hay-like oxidative action, cereal and honeyed tones. Complex. On the palate this has nice volume, richness and intensity with electric acidity. Quite textural and layered. Possesses certain ripeness to it but also has this wonderful tartness. Markedly vibrant and impeccably balanced, extremely drinkable.
I’m sorry to come here to be the party pooper but I don’t like this wine at this stage of its evolution. There is this oaky dulce de leche (caramel) character to it that right now it’s obfuscating my ability to appreciate this wine positive notes, like the citrus tension et al.
I had a few issues with some bottles being a bit early developed showing similar characteristics. It has not been many, but enough that it is starting to be a bit worrying.
