TN: 2019 Stein Alfer Hölle Riesling 1900

  • 2019 Stein Alfer Hölle Riesling 1900 - Germany, Mosel Saar Ruwer (3/17/2022)
PnP - Grassl Liberte glass: A light golden yellow in the glass, scents of peach, chalk, quince, with a faint note of under-ripe pineapple lingering in the background. The palate is clean, precise, with a finish that fans out with notes of stone fruit, lime, candied ginger, slate, and lemon that stretches out for a long (minute+) across waves of salvation…this is extraordinary. A wine not to be missed if you love Riesling.

Great note. Was blown away by this wine when I had it last year. I have one more bottle, but can’t find more 2019s. I did request some 2020s.

Interesting. We had a bottle in London last November that was shut down hard.

for those who need to know, the 2020 is spectacular. slate, tar, a second petrol high note. a third petrichor soft note. peach compote. a little grilled. lemongrass and a long acidic core. very low notes overall and very attractive. nice+

Fwiw I find these wines benefit from Air in the glass and slow O. Love them .
